As we were gearing up for a very long flight to Asia with my two toddlers, I did something I never thought I’d do as a parent: I bought an iPad for the trip. My biggest hesitation? Wondering if I could actually control what my kids were watching. Would it be age-appropriate? Wholesome? Or full of random ads and questionable content?
In my search for safe, calming shows, I came across The Nap Time Show, a thoughtfully curated series designed specifically for little ones to help them relax. Of course, I previewed a few episodes myself before letting my toddlers watch. What I found was a sweet, low-stimulation show that truly feels different from anything else out there.
It’s created by a family-led, art-based production company built on love and guided by the power of storytelling to spark intergenerational healing, understanding, and growth, rooted in principles of inclusion and liberation. So, I downloaded a few episodes on the iPad and was ready for takeoff – literally!
When we got to the airport, we had a bit more time to kill than I wanted… and my boys were starting to go stir crazy. I pulled out the iPad, and almost instantly, they calmed. It was both amazing and a little surreal.
I watched as they got completely absorbed in the show. This doesn’t happen with every show; it’s really only a few that can hold their attention like this! They especially gravitated toward Siesta, who guides each episode and teaches gentle lessons while preparing children for nap time.
It was perfect timing, because my plan was for them to nap as soon as we got on the plane. I’m not sure it was entirely the show, but we can definitely give it a lot of credit. Nap time was nearly instantaneous once we boarded. For me, someone who still stresses about how others are feeling around me even after countless flights with the boys, this was an incredible relief.
One of the biggest lessons we came home with is that staying calm even when your kids are not is everything. There were moments when my boys were overstimulated or overtired, and keeping my own energy steady helped them settle faster. I’ll admit, I certainly didn’t do this perfectly! But… using The Nap Time Show at key moments, like before boarding, created little pockets of calm that made transitions much easier.
We also continue to learn the importance of being flexible with nap times and sleep schedules, especially when crossing time zones. We had a 12-hour time difference (woof) and that required a LOT of flexibility from everyone. Trying to stick to our usual routine only led to frustration, while following the boys’ cues helped everyone feel more rested and less cranky.
Finally, we realized that stillness and slowness are not the same. Waiting in line or moving slowly does not guarantee calm, but quiet moments with a show, a story, or just sitting together created real stillness that energized us all.
Traveling with toddlers is challenging, but staying calm, flexible, and intentional with moments of stillness (helped along by the right tools like The Nap Time Show) made the trip much more enjoyable than we expected.
If you’re curious to dive deeper into The Nap Time Show, you’ll find that it was built with parents like you in mind. Instead of over-the-top colors and noise, our episodes follow a gentle, research-based routine that actually helps kids wind down. Think of it as the opposite of the overstimulation you’ll find on a lot of kids’ YouTube. And with our new platform, Fruit Snack Streams, families will be able to take this experience anywhere. Download episodes for offline use (hello, plane rides and road trips!) and know your little one isn’t just being occupied, but soothed, supported, and cared for, even when you’re on the go.
Kidgo has that same heartbeat of care, just in the travel world. It’s a space where parents share real stories, real advice, and real solutions for exploring the world with kids…because who better to guide you than another mom or dad who’s already done it? From where to stay to what to pack, Kidgo takes the overwhelm out of family travel and replaces it with confidence and joy.
And honestly, that’s where the magic overlaps: both Kidgo and The Nap Time Show are about helping families move through the world with a little more ease, whether you’re navigating bedtime at home or nap time in a new city.
